The Museum offers safe and educational daylong programs that engage your child in a variety of science activities. Topics vary with each date, so sign up for them all!

Spring Break Camps
March 31 - April 4, 2008
Plan a great spring break full of discovery and exploration for your child! The
Museum's Spring Break Camps offer a wide range of activities across our indoor/outdoor campus.
- 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
- $215 members / $235 non-members
- Extended hours: 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. $45
- Lunch option available

PreK–K
Rain or ShineJoin our weather team for some shadow chasing, puddle jumping, and rain dancing. Become a junior meteorologist, and use scientific tools to figure out which clothes would be best to wear for the day’s weather. We'll become snowflakes, act out a thunderstorm, and even create a mini tornado to take home!
Grades 1–2
Construction ZoneInvestigate how animals make their homes, and take a page from their book as you create your own house, bridge or tower. Choose your materials, use the right tools and design a structure to take home.
Grades 3–5
Cyborg ScienceWhat exactly are robots and what can they do for you? Learn some robotics fundamentals as you build a robot that will follow simple commands to escape a maze of your own design. Special materials fee: $50.

Summer Camp
When summer heats up, there is no place cooler than the Museum of Life and Science Summer Camp! We offer a one-of-a-kind learning environment featuring a range of activities carefully tailored for your child’s development and taught by caring teachers and professional educators. New outdoor areas to explore and new Museum camps in 2007 included Sports Science, Dinosaurs, Air and Flight. Camps back by popular demand include Robotics, Crime Scene Science and Wildlife Biology. Classes for Young Children (ages 2 to 6)
Children and one accompanying adult can discover new ways to investigate and learn science together. All classes are held during the traditional school year.Native American Ways
Learn about the lives of Eastern Native American people as you grind corn, make paints, play games, and listen to legends shared through the ages.
For 2½ and 3 year-olds:

Invention Investigations
Step up to the workbench to tinker, fiddle, and experiment as we invent a color, build a marble maze, and take apart small machines.For 2½ and 3 year-olds:

Dinosaur Detectives
Become a paleontologist uncovering clues from the past. Dig for fossils, compare dinosaur sizes and reconstruct how you think a dinosaur looked, felt, and sounded.For 2½ and 3 year-olds:

Incredible Insects
Explore butterflies, bees, beetles and more! Study live cockroaches, play with puppets and create insect crafts.For 2½ and 3 year-olds:

Rain or Shine
Become a junior meteorologist who explores clouds, rainfall, wind and other elements of our weather. We'll experiment with tornado tubes, help make it rain in the classroom, and use thermometers to investigate the ups and downs of a spring day.For 2½ and 3 year-olds:

May 10: 9:30 and 10:45 a.m.

Track Out Days
Have fun during your track-out while raising money for your school!The Museum is proud to offer a new series, Track Out Days, to local year-round schools. These daylong programs, challenge participants with hands-on math and science in a safe and social setting.
Be sure to mention your school when you sign up! The Museum will donate a portion of the programming fees back to each participant’s school. Together we can build a stronger educational community.

Girl Scout Programs
General Information:
- All registration takes place through Girl Scouts – North Carolina Coastal Pines. Questions should be directed to Director of Special Programs.
- All programs are approximately 50 minutes
- Cost for Breakfast with the Butterflies: $13/person
- Cost for all other programs: $14/girl, $7/adult
November 10, 2007: Meet the Animals
Junior Girl Scouts
Get up close to meet and touch some of our wildest Museum friends as we compare body coverings, habitats and diets. Walk in the steps of a wildlife biologist as you spend the rest of the day exploring the habitats of bears, wolves and lemurs on your own!
December 1, 2007: Sounds of Music
Brownie Girl Scouts
What does a vibration have to do with sound? Girls will investigate the highs and lows of pitch as they create instruments out of everyday materials. Spend the rest of the day exploring on your own!
January 26, 2008: Circuit Builders
Junior Girl Scouts
What makes a light bulb light up? How can we use electric current to do work? Find out as we manipulate materials to discover the electrifying world of electricity and electromagnets! Spend the rest of the day exploring on your own.
February 16, 2008: Midnight Movers
Daisy Girl Scouts
Sleep all day and creep all night – this is the life of a nocturnal animal. Shine your light like a firefly, become an owl and hunt for food, and meet a midnight mover too! Spend the rest of the day exploring on your own.
February 23, 2008: Butterfly Life
Brownie Girl Scouts
Girls will learn about these beautiful creatures and their fascinating life cycles by looking at real specimens, making microscope slides of wings, and other make-and-take projects. Then visit the Museum’s state of the art Magic Wings Butterfly House to view hundreds of exotic butterflies fluttering through rainforest trees and feeding on vibrant tropical flowers. Spend the rest of the day exploring on your own.
