Classes for Young Children (ages 2 to 6)

Our Classes for Young Children incorporate hands-on activities, role-play, and self-guided investigation to build upon the natural curiosity of young learners. Programs encourage parent-child discovery in our 2½ and 3 year-olds, and peer-peer interactions in our 4 to 6 year-olds.

FOR YOUNG CHILDREN


Treasure Boxes

Explore our collection of treasure boxes as we observe, compare and sort valuable objects inside. Using our senses and some man-made tools, we'll hunt for treasure ourselves.

 

2½ and 3 year-old classes (with accompanying adult):
Friday, May 1: 10 a.m.
Saturday, May 2: 10 a.m.

 

4 to 6 year-old series:
Thursdays, April 23, 30 and May 7: 3:45-4:45 p.m.

Summer Camp

 

When summer heats up, there is no place cooler than the Museum of Life and Science! We offer a one-of-a-kind learning environment featuring a range of activities carefully tailored for your child’s development and taught by caring teachers and professional educators. Offered here at the Museum in Durham, Chapel Hill, and, NEW THIS YEAR, in Cary.

Children's Gardening Series

Learn about how our lives and the earth are connected. Till soil, plant seeds, water, prune, weed, and enjoy! Each series culminates with a party to celebrate your hard work.

Saturday Springboards for Tweens and Teens

With a springboard there is a set starting point, but an uncertain end. Participants will be provided with materials for exploration, a member of our Museum faculty and freedom to explore the manicured and un-manicured areas of our campus. You will get dirty. You will take risks. You will have fun. 

 

Ready, Set, Net

What could you do with a jar and a net? What would you explore, observe, learn about? Let's see where our curiosities take us.

Spring Break Camps

Plan a great spring break full of discovery and exploration for your child! The Museum's Spring Break Camps offer a wide range of activities across our indoor/outdoor campus.


PreK–K

Pet Pals
Is your stuffed animal sick? Do you want teach your pet dog some new tricks? What would you feed a lemur? Learn how to be a veterinarian, animal trainer, and zookeeper. You will even learn how to be the best friend of a live goldfish!

Grades 1–2

Out of this World
When we look up in the sky we can see a small part of the universe. Learn about the pictures stars make in the sky and create a constellation that you can store in your pocket. We'll launch our own rockets and discover what makes up our solar system.

Grades 3–5

Junior Vets
What do different animals eat? What kind of habitat do animals need to be happy and healthy? What should you do if an animal gets sick or injured? Learn the answers to these questions through various activities, personal observation and the experience of taking care of an aquatic friend. You will even become certified in Pet First Aid! Special materials fee:$25.

Track-Out / Intersession Camps

The Museum's Track-Out Camps offer a wide range of activities across our indoor/outdoor campus for children in year-round schools.

  • Grades preK-5

The Museum offers safe and educational

day-long programs that engage your child in

a variety of science activities.

Topics vary with each date, so sign up for them all!

  • Age 4 through 5th grade

  • $65 per participant
  • Lunch option available: $4.75
