Development Associate
This position supports the Museum’s mission by contributing to fundraising through multiple channels and projects as well as providing administrative and project support to the VP for External Relations. Duties include but are not limited to management of monthly renewal appeals to corporate and individual supporting members, planning and implementing direct appeals to Museum donors, manage opportunities to promote annual fund programs including “Adopt An Animal” or “Buy A Brick” and other group fundraising strategies, work with other development team members to engage and support Development Committee of Museum Board of Directors, prepare prospect research and assist with grant writing and manage relationships with selected corporate, foundation and individual donors.
Requirements for the position include 1+ years fundraising experience or related experience and knowledge, excellent computer and organizational skills, strong attention to detail, energetic, self-motivated professional with excellent people skills, the ability to learn new things quickly and the ability to interact with a wide variety of individuals. A Bachelor’s degree, experience with database programs (particularly Raiser’s Edge), fundraising experience in North Carolina/RTP area, previous non-profit organization experience and a desire to increase proficiency in development is preferred but not required.
This position is full-time exempt with a normal work schedule of Monday-Friday. Occasional nights and weekends will be required. Hiring range for this position is $34,000--$39,000 annually and includes full benefits. This position has a start date on or after October 1, 2010.

Master Teacher
This position supports the Museum’s mission by developing and implementing informal science education programs and supporting the Family & School Experiences initiatives. Duties include but are not limited to development of programs for visitors, both formal and informal, teaching/facilitation of programs, work on cross-departmental teams as needed for projects such as exhibit development and special events, management of classroom space, materials (including program animals) and budget to maintain and enhance an exciting learning environment.
Requirements for the position include four-year degree in science or education, experience developing and implementing science curriculum, valid driver’s license, the ability to manage multiple tasks, the ability to work independently and within a team, willingness to work with animals and passion for informal science education. The successful candidate will also demonstrate dependability, flexibility, enthusiasm, self-motivation, creativity and strong organizational skills.
Experience working in a museum or other informal educational setting, developing and implementing early childhood curriculum, working with animals, science lab experience, using technology to enhance curriculum and Spanish language skills are preferred but not required.
This position is full-time exempt with a Tuesday-Saturday work schedule. Occasional evening program support is required. The hiring range is $25,000-$30,000 annually plus benefits. This position has a start date on or after October 1, 2010.

Birthday Party Educator
The Museum offers themed and basic party packages for young children up to ten years old. The Birthday Party Educators will facilitate the parties by assisting party hosts with set-up and clean up, preparing materials and leading the parties, including delivering 30-minute science based programs.
We are looking for people with a high school diploma/GED, experience working with children, excellent customer service and communication skills and willingness to handle animals and insects (training will be provided). Candidates must also be able to stand for up to 4 hours at a time and lift 15 lbs. A background in education and/or science is preferred.
This position is adjunct, approximately 10 hours per week, primarily on weekends (9am-5pm Saturdays and noon-5pm on Sundays). Candidates must be able to work at least three weekends per month. Position starts at $8.25/hour.
