Spread your wings at Birdapalooza featuring birds from parrots to predators, and learning programs from local and Museum naturalists. Free with Museum admission. Fee required for Birdman Dave programs.

The Amazon Rainforest with Birdman Dave

Discover life's most diverse ecosystem in the world. Listen to a story about how each living thing has a purpose and a part to play in the life of the Rainforest. Delight in the antics and flight of live birds known as soil makers, teachers of children and messengers of good fortune.

There will be three programs offered, two short morning sessions geared towards early learners and an hour-long afternoon program for general audiences.

Magic Wings Butterfly House Conservatory

Meet the “Pest Control SWAT Team”

Did you know there are more than just butterflies in the Magic Wings Butterfly House? Come to the conservatory and learn how the birds of the Special Wings and Tactics Team aid in biological pest control.

Bird Walk

12:00 p.m.–1:00 p.m.
Top of the Boardwalk in Explore the Wild

Spend a relaxing hour with other bird enthusiasts to watch and identify birds in our ten acres of outdoor exhibits. Your guide will be our own resident Naturalist and Museum Ranger Greg Dodge.

Bring binoculars and field guides if you like. The Museum’s Science Education Resource Center will also have some on hand to share. See Greg's online Explore the Wild Journal

Also, don’t forget to stop by and visit our feathered friends in Carolina Wildlife! This rich exhibit is home to several native bird species.

Join Museum staff in our Farmyard to meet Misha, the Museum’s Red-Tailed Hawk and learn more about characteristics and behavior of this amazing bird of prey.

What makes a bird a bird? We’ll learn about classification, methods used to identify birds and examine some eggs and nests up close. Explore how birds glide and soar and make and take your own bird of prey glider!
