Year Round Day Camp Go Figure! Playing with Math
Open to all Year Round Students (spaces still available)
Spend the day folding intricate origami, stirring together algebra trail mix, discovering how you can use symmetry to enhance your art projects, tackling complicated patterns to unravel how they’re formed, and marveling at the math proportions embedded in your body!

2pm Storytime in Play to Learn
Did you know that this week is also National Library Week? Join our guest from the Durham County Library for a very special Storytime in Play to Learn.

 

Reading aloud to children is “the single most important activity for building knowledge for their eventual success in reading”, according to Becoming a Nation of Readers, a 1985 report by the Commission on Reading.

Horton Hatches the Egg by Dr. Seuss

How absurd! An elephant trying to hatch an egg? But once he’s given his word, Horton is determined to sit on the egg through ridicule, rain, snow, and capture. Find out how the story ends for this faithful elephant. Afterwards, we’ll meet and touch a live chicken and take a closer look at what it takes to hatch an egg.

If You Give a Pig a Party by Laura Joffe Numeroff and Felicia Bond

Laura Numeroff's popular children's series poses the ever present "if" question and creates engaging and funny scenarios with animals in some very silly situations. Enjoy a reading of the story and then help prepare some healthy "party snacks" for our own Museum Pig, "Squealer".

SATURDAY, APRIL 19

 

Museum’s Safe Kids Day celebration
The Museum brings together safety professionals to talk about ways to keep young children safe at home, at school and at play. Adults can talk to representatives from local safety organizations and pick up tools and information that will help keep the kids in their life safe from accidental injury, one of the leading causes of death for children under the age of 14. Plenty of free safety goodies will be given away as well. Participating organizations include Durham Fire Department, US Coast Guard Auxiliary, NC State Highway Patrol and many more!
